    Make every day compliment day

1 March is national compliment day, and even though it seems obvious to compliment someone for doing something well, there's always room for improvement. We shouldn't limit ourselves to compliments about someone's work performance — appreciation for their effort, team spirit, a great outfit... it can be anything! Plus, we often think our compliments but forget to actually say them out loud. That's why national compliment day can be a great reminder to give each other a compliment, an original gift, a thank you, a nice gesture or a heartfelt high five a bit more often. And of course, it definitely shouldn't be limited to that one day a year! 🤩

Why are compliments so important that we dedicate a whole day to them? People are still social creatures, and we're all looking for appreciation and connection. And that's exactly what a heartfelt compliment can provide. A small gesture, an encouraging word or an unexpected compliment can make a huge difference in someone's day. It doesn't matter whether your compliment is about how good someone's mood is, which nice accessory they picked out that day, something they did really well, or how they made your day with a kind gesture... Go for it and give those compliments! Feeling a bit shy to get started? Here are 3 tips to help you on your way.

    1. Be sincere and specific

A compliment needs to be genuine to have any effect. So be as sincere as possible. Point out exactly what you think your colleague did so well, or what you really like, and ask questions to show your interest is genuine. A good example? 'I think the way you put together the monthly follow-up sheet is so handy and clear, can you show me how you do that?', 'Thanks for your help just now, I would never have finished it on time otherwise', 'It's so nice that you really listened to me, without judging'...

    Just go for it!

    2. Write your compliment down

Let those positive vibes flow freely through your team or company, and ask everyone to write down a personal compliment for a colleague. Make it a habit and do this regularly. It can give a lovely boost to the feedback culture in your company and only benefits great teamwork.
