‘Snacking’ often has a negative connotation for many. Unhealthy, sugary, and fatty snacks are not the best choice for your body. But did you know that healthy snacking actually has many benefits? We explain them and would love to convince you of the power of good snacking, whether at home or at work.
Snack it healthy
Snacks with low nutritional value are not a good choice to fuel your body. They not only quickly leave you feeling hungry again but are also bad for your heart, blood vessels, and cholesterol, among other things. So it’s better to avoid them – but you don’t have to skip all snacks! The healthy options have quite a few advantages:
- Healthy snacking supports an active metabolism. Your body keeps burning energy, helping you avoid the typical energy dips between meals. Hello, alertness and productivity! A win not just for you but also for your employer or surroundings.
- By eating regularly between meals, you avoid hunger attacks or cravings for unhealthy foods. So if you watch your diet, healthy snacking is a must! It also suppresses your hunger, so you eat less at your next meal.
- Your colleagues also benefit from your healthy nibbling: your eating habits can inspire them and contribute to a healthy work environment. And who wouldn’t want to work at a company with a positive, healthy image?
Snack it regularly
It’s a good idea to add healthy snacks to your daily routine. Always carry them with you and try to eat something every 2 to 3 hours, to keep your metabolism going. The best time to snack is very personal: choose a moment just before you usually experience a dip or hunger.
Snacking is also essential when you exercise. Choose a snack with slow-release carbohydrates before you work up a sweat and reward yourself with a protein-rich snack to recover. In the evening, a fiber-rich snack is the best choice: it helps keep your blood sugar levels under control.
Snack it real good
How do you know which snacks are the right choice? Unfortunately, you can’t tell just by looking at the nutrition facts! Check the ingredient list for natural ingredients. These mainly contain (pure) proteins, (polyunsaturated) fats, carbohydrates (with a low glycemic index), and fibers. Think of fruit, vegetables, dairy, nuts, seeds, or kernels: they make a perfect addition to a healthy diet and taste delicious too!
What you don’t recognize is often not very promising: emulsifiers, anthocyanins, acesulfame, sucralose… Unfortunately, you often find these ingredients, but try to avoid them if you can.
Do you want to start snacking healthily without having to think too much about it? Then consider the JustBite products! They contain a mix of products packed with healthy ingredients and are also ideal for on the go thanks to the individual packaging. Snack away!
