    Hasselt - May 2023

JustBite & PXL University College Limburg join forces to encourage students, teachers, and visitors to snack healthier. By expanding the range and using nudging techniques, they aim to contribute to a healthier school environment.

    First at the university college

Until recently, JustBite was mainly active in the corporate market by offering healthier snacks to companies and hospitals. After targeting employees and visitors, the young start-up has now set its sights on students. PXL is the first university college with which they are starting an extensive collaboration.

“Every organization can make a conscious choice to tackle (social) issues. Our eating behavior is 70% automatic and intuitive, and our environment largely determines what we eat. That’s why we are happy to contribute to a healthier snacking environment together with PXL,” says Aitor Somers, co-founder of JustBite.

    Healthier, more sustainable, and tasty

Fruit is a perfectly healthy snack. But sometimes you want something different, and then you often end up with the ubiquitous ultra-processed snacks. They are made to taste good but offer little to no nutritional value.

“And that is the category we want to improve at the university college. By offering nutritious, natural, and tasty snacks. The range is 99% vegan and thus contributes to the plant-based shift and our sustainability goals. The only exception in the range is Kriket, a Belgian start-up that developed a bar based on nuts and cricket flour. They want to make the idea of eating crickets accessible. Crickets are a smart source of protein and contribute to the protein shift,” says head of PXL Catering Rudy Rampelberg.

Appealing to the eye as well

In the main building, a traditional candy vending machine will be transformed into a JustBite branded vending machine that stands out. With floor stickers and communication on digital screens, extra attention will be drawn and information provided.

The colorful displays in the student restaurants and coffee bars increase visibility and the opportunity to purchase healthier snacks.

Finally, external companies using PXL’s facilities for meetings and events will also be able to enjoy healthier snack boxes.
